THE PATISSERIE EDUCATION COMPANION

Read a course beyond its title

Look past the title to the syllabus, practical access, assessment and actual award wording.

QUESTIONS TO KEEP WITH THE SUBJECT

  1. What is included in the syllabus?
  2. Which activities are supervised?
  3. What does the actual award say?

01

The starting question

A course title can suggest a discipline without establishing its depth, duration or outcome. Ask for the approved syllabus, entry requirements and the learning activities actually included.

02

Keep the distinction

Distinguish demonstrations, supervised practice, assessment and independent examination arrangements. A publication can help you frame the questions, but it does not admit learners or recognise a qualification on another organisation’s behalf.

03

Bring the context with you

A brochure can help you identify a subject without establishing the complete arrangement. Keep the provider’s actual document, its date and the point you want clarified beside your notes. Ask which information is current and who can confirm it. A publication can organise the conversation while the responsible provider retains its own admissions and assessment responsibilities.
